Ceylon Earl Grey
Superior quality 100% pure Ceylon Tea Natural Ingredients Free from artificial additives
This Ceylon Earl Grey is FBOP black tea from Uva, Sri Lanka, scented with bergamot oil and cornflower petals for a bright, citrus cup. For what Earl Grey tea is and how our four styles compare, see the collection page. Steep at 95°C for three to five minutes. Loose leaf from 100 g, plus pyramid bags and a gift tin.
How to brew Ceylon Earl Grey
Fine Uva FBOP Ceylon black tea infused with fragrant bergamot, brewing into a bright crimson cup with classic citrus notes. Water just off the boil and 3 to 5 minutes bring out the bergamot without bitterness.
Fragrant, elegant and refreshing — the bright citrus of bergamot balanced by brisk Uva Ceylon. Steep 3 minutes for a lighter cup that lets the bergamot sing, or up to 5 for more body; any longer can turn it bitter. Perfect black or with a slice of lemon to lift the citrus, or a little honey. If you take milk, add a splash after brewing.

Where It's Grown
On the sun-drenched eastern slopes of Sri Lanka's central highlands, Uva is home to some of the most aromatic teas in the world. Between 900 and 1,500 metres, the leaf matures slowly in cool mountain air, building a crisp, clean briskness and a pronounced aroma with hints of wood and honey.
Our Ceylon Earl Grey (FBOP grade) brings this character to the cup: classical bergamot with citrus notes.
From December to February the northeast monsoon brings rain to these eastern hills. Then, from July to September, the dry, cool kachan winds of the southwest monsoon sweep over the mountains. This gentle stress concentrates flavour in the leaf, giving Uva's seasonal teas their famous mellow, almost wintergreen-like fragrance.

Taste profile and strength
Expect a bright crimson liquor, classical bergamot on the nose, and a light-bodied Ceylon black tea underneath — citrus first, briskness second. It is not a heavy breakfast mug and it is not a fruit blend.
Steep at 95°C. Stop at five minutes so the bergamot does not turn bitter. Lemon or a little honey suits it; milk is optional, added after brewing.
Caffeine
This is not decaffeinated — it is Ceylon black tea with bergamot. For typical caffeine notes on Earl Grey tea, see the collection page. Brew 2 g / 200 ml at 95 °C for 3–5 minutes; a shorter steep extracts less.
How this Earl Grey compares
Classic vs French: this page is bergamot on Uva FBOP. French Earl Grey adds passionfruit, soursop, and flower petals on Kandy BOP1 — fruit and florals, not a vanilla cream.
Organic Earl Grey is the same idea on certified Idalgashinna leaf. Ceylon English Breakfast is unscented Dimbula FBOP for a milk-friendly morning cup.
Lady Grey (extra citrus peel) and cream Earl Grey (vanilla) are different recipes. We do not sell them. A green-tea bergamot, if you want one, is Earl Grey Green.
Best ways to enjoy
Afternoon, plain or with lemon, is the natural fit. A splash of milk after brewing softens it. For a London fog, brew this tea, then add steamed milk and a drop of vanilla. Iced, brew a little stronger and pour over ice.
The 100 g gift tin is an easy present; 250 g is the loose-leaf refill. Free shipping on qualifying orders over $85.

“Bergamot, bergamot.... ”
A friend reccommendef this tea a year or so ago and we have been completely hooked on it ever since. The lovely subtle flavour of bergamot makes it so deliciously refreshing. Packaging a bit over the top, though.
