Organic Earl Grey tea is certified organic Ceylon FBOP from Idalgashinna in the Uva highlands, scented with bergamot oil and cornflower petals for a bright citrus cup. Steep at 95°C for three to five minutes; drink black or with a little lemon. Loose leaf in 50 g and 100 g. For the everyday non-organic cup with pyramid bags, see our Ceylon Earl Grey tea.

How to brew Organic Earl Grey Tea

Certified organic Idalgashinna FBOP black tea with bergamot oil and cornflower brews into a reddish-gold cup with classical citrus aroma. Water just off the boil and three to five minutes are enough.

Brewer's note

Elegant briskness and a clean finish — bergamot stays bright when you steep about 3 minutes; up to 5 adds body without turning bitter. Best plain or with lemon so the bergamot stays clear. A little honey is fine; skip heavy milk on this lighter cup.

Where It's Grown

On the sun-drenched eastern slopes of Sri Lanka's central highlands, Uva is home to some of the most aromatic teas in the world. Between 900 and 1,500 metres, the leaf matures slowly in cool mountain air, building a crisp, clean briskness and a pronounced aroma with hints of wood and honey.

Our Organic Earl Grey Tea (FBOP grade) brings this character to the cup: classical bergamot with citrus notes.

Elevation 900–1,500 m
Monsoon Dry kachan winds
Best season July – September

From December to February the northeast monsoon brings rain to these eastern hills. Then, from July to September, the dry, cool kachan winds of the southwest monsoon sweep over the mountains. This gentle stress concentrates flavour in the leaf, giving Uva's seasonal teas their famous mellow, almost wintergreen-like fragrance.

What is organic Earl Grey tea?

Organic Earl Grey tea is the same bergamot-scented black tea style as classic Earl Grey, but the leaf is grown and processed under certified organic rules — no synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilisers in the supply chain you buy from.

Shoppers search for organic Earl Grey tea and organic Earl Grey when they want that citrus cup with organic certification. This page is TEA TOP’s Idalgashinna FBOP from the Uva highlands — not the everyday non-organic Uva cup and not the fruit-and-petal French style.

This organic Earl Grey

Our Organic Earl Grey is certified organic FBOP black tea from Idalgashinna, Haputale, in the Uva district — hand picked and processed at the estate factory, then scented with natural bergamot oil and cornflower petals. The leaf is short and slightly wiry with occasional tips, like our plain organic black.

Taste profile and strength

Expect reddish-gold liquor, classical bergamot and citrus on the nose, and elegant briskness from Ceylon FBOP underneath. It is lighter than a breakfast mug and cleaner than a fruit blend.

Steep at 95°C. Plain or with lemon suits it best; a little honey is fine. Heavy milk can mute the bergamot.

Caffeine in organic Earl Grey tea

We have not published a lab assay for this lot, so treat milligram figures as a typical range, not a promise. Ceylon black tea brewed as we recommend (2 g / 200 ml, 3–5 minutes, 95 °C) usually falls around 40–70 mg of caffeine per cup. This is not decaffeinated organic Earl Grey.

How this organic Earl Grey compares

Ceylon Earl Grey is bergamot on non-organic Uva FBOP — loose leaf, pyramid bags, and gift tins. This page is the certified organic Idalgashinna cup in 50 g and 100 g loose leaf only.

French Earl Grey is bergamot plus passionfruit, soursop, and petals on Kandy BOP1 — a decorative fruit blend, not an organic certification story.

Lady Grey and cream Earl Grey are different recipes we do not sell. For plain organic black from the same estate, choose Idalgashinna Organic Black Tea.

Best ways to enjoy

A calm daily ritual, plain or with lemon, suits this cup. The 100 g tin is an easy gift for someone who already drinks Earl Grey and wants organic leaf.

Frequently Asked Questions

Organic Earl Grey tea is certified organic black tea scented with bergamot — the same classic style as Earl Grey, grown and processed under organic rules. This TEA TOP cup is FBOP from Idalgashinna (Uva) with bergamot oil and cornflower petals. It is not French Earl Grey (fruit and flowers) and not cream Earl Grey (vanilla).

Use 2 g per 200 ml at 95°C for 3–5 minutes. See the brewing guide on this page for the full steps.

This page is loose leaf only — 50 g and 100 g tins. For pyramid bags and more sizes, see Ceylon Earl Grey (non-organic Uva FBOP, same bergamot style).

No. This is a caffeinated organic Ceylon black tea blend. We do not sell a decaf organic Earl Grey on this page.

We have not published a lab assay for this lot, so treat milligram figures as a typical range, not a promise. Ceylon black tea brewed as we recommend (2 g / 200 ml, 3–5 minutes, 95 °C) usually falls around 40–70 mg of caffeine per cup — less than drip coffee.

Ceylon Earl Grey is everyday Uva FBOP with bergamot — loose leaf, pyramid bags, and gift tins. This page is certified organic Idalgashinna FBOP with bergamot. Choose organic for certification and estate traceability; choose classic for formats and value.

Both are black tea with bergamot. French Earl Grey adds passionfruit, soursop, and petals on Kandy BOP1 — fruit and florals, not organic certification. Buy this page for certified organic bergamot only; buy French for the decorative fruit blend.

Lady Grey is usually Earl Grey plus extra citrus peel. Cream Earl Grey adds vanilla. We do not sell either on TEA TOP.

Reddish-gold liquor, smooth bergamot and citrus on the nose, brisk Ceylon black tea underneath, and a clean finish. Best plain or with lemon.
