Ceylon Afternoon is BOP1 broken-leaf black tea from the high, sunny slopes of Uva — wiry, medium-length leaf that brews into a bright ruby-red cup with malty freshness and real afternoon strength.

The liquor looks lighter than it drinks: malty, robust and satisfying without heaviness. Fresh, flavoursome and easy to brew at 95°C, it is the dependable pick-me-up when you want honest Ceylon black tea in three to five minutes.

Brewer's note

Malty, fresh and satisfyingly robust — the ideal companion to an afternoon break with a biscuit or a slice of cake. Steep 3 minutes for a brisk, refreshing cup, or the full 5 for a fuller, maltier brew that pairs beautifully with milk. Enjoy it with a splash of milk after brewing, or black with a touch of honey, sugar or a slice of lemon.

Where It's Grown

On the sun-drenched eastern slopes of Sri Lanka's central highlands, Uva is home to some of the most aromatic teas in the world. Between 900 and 1,500 metres, the leaf matures slowly in cool mountain air, building a crisp, clean briskness and a pronounced aroma with hints of wood and honey.

Our Ceylon Afternoon (BOP1 grade) brings this character to the cup: malty fresh and robust.

Elevation 900–1,500 m
Monsoon Dry kachan winds
Best season July – September

From December to February the northeast monsoon brings rain to these eastern hills. Then, from July to September, the dry, cool kachan winds of the southwest monsoon sweep over the mountains. This gentle stress concentrates flavour in the leaf, giving Uva's seasonal teas their famous mellow, almost wintergreen-like fragrance.
